Through two agreements that were signed today, the Otters Aquatic Sports Club and the Xewkija Tigers Football Club are now in a better position to operate and to invest both in the club and in their athletes and sportsmen respectively, a Government statement said.

Both clubs will benefit from the SportMalta Scheme, where the Government is giving a 95% subsidy on the acquisition of Government lands to be converted into sports facilities.

The rent paid by the club is put into a ‘Sports Fund’ which is used for further investment in local sport.

The first agreement that was signed is the one between SportMalta and Otters Aquatic Sports Club, through which three boathouses in the Marsalforn area passed to the club with a license for 45 years.

Through the SportMalta scheme, the club will pay a fee of €120 per year instead of the current value of €2,400.

The second agreement is the one between SportMalta and the football club Xewkija Tigers, through which land measuring approximately 400.5 square meters was transferred to this club with a lease for 45 years.

This land will be used as offices. Through the SportMalta scheme the total amount of rent that the club will pay per year is €225, instead of the current value of €4,500.

The agreements were signed in two separate events and were chaired by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima and the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri.
