The total number of people in employment during the second quarter of this year was estimated at 294,313, this was 4.9% higher when compared to the previous year.

This data comes from the Labour Force Survey released by the National Statistics Office today.

The survey found that the average monthly basic salary of employees for the second quarter of 2023 was estimated at €1,831. The highest basic salary was recorded in the financial and insurance activities sector.

Average monthly salaries varied from €1,163 among persons employed in elementary occupations to €2,994 among managers.

Among the employed population 34.95% had a tertiary level of education. The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2023, stood at 2.5%.

The NSO noted that the main reason for inactivity relates to persons reaching retirement age or taking up early retirement (43.5%).
