The Ghajnsielem Local Council has successfully completed two major projects which included road resurfacing and the restoration of rubble walls.

The European Union projects were carried out under Measure 4.3 and 4.4 of the EARDF 2014-2020.

They included 5 kilometres of new surface to non-urban roads of tal-Brieghen, Xatt l-Ahmar and Ta’ Bordin. For works the Council benefitted from €300,000 in EU Funds.

For the other project under Measure 4.4, the Council restored no less than two kilometres of walls also in the roads of Brieghen and that of Xatt l-Ahmar.

The Council explained that prior to these works, the roads were mostly inaccessible, as well as being full of illegal waste.Ghajnsielem Council completes two major projects through EU funds“Now we are happy to announce that these roads are fully accessible with a decent surface which is of great benefit to the farmers who have been asking for the roads to be repaired for many years, as well as for families who enjoy walking the countryside,” the Council said.

The finished roads and the surrounding environment have also been embellished by the restoration of an ancient wall, carried out and completed by craftsmen in this work, for which the Council was awarded the sum of €130,000. The restored walls provide protection for farmers who have fields alongside, the Council said.Ghajnsielem Council completes two major projects through EU fundsIn a Press Conference held by the Ghajnsielem Local Council marking the completion of these two projects, Mayor Kevin Cauchi praised these initiatives without which the Council wouldn’t be able carry out projects of this magnitude.

He also made reference to the works that have just been completed under measure 4.3 in Triq Dahlet l’Ghama through funds from the European Union.

The Mayor concluded by saying that “all this continues to encourage the Council to improve not only the rural infrastructure but also that of our non-urban areas.
