For the third consecutive year, a summer course for children with disabilities in Gozo was hailed as a great success.

The Government said that the enhanced services on offer meant that the children with disabilities could continue developing and have the opportunity to attend SkolaSajf just the same as other children.

Around 52 students attended a number of specific sessions that offered the participants a learning experience through structured lessons.

Among the subjects treated were drama, science and music. In addition, the children were also offered training sessions with individual attention.

This was made possible through an agreement between the Ministry for Gozo, the Foundation for Educational Services, Agenzija Sapport within the Ministry for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights and the NGO Voice for Inclusion Gozo Association. The service was given in the Sannat Special Unit, Gozo.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and the Minister for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights Julia Farrugia Portelli, together with the CEO of Agenzija Sapport Oliver Scicluna, visited the Sannat Special Unit, where apart from meeting those responsible for the management of these services, they could also follow some of the sessions that were being given.

Minister Farrugia Portelli said, “we wanted the disabled children to have a continuation in the summer as well so that when they enter the winter routine they don’t have a double challenge.” She also thanked the Gozitan NGO and the Ministries involved for their combined work.

Minister Clint Camilleri said that, “this service continues to improve and more Gozitan children every year are attending this programme funded by the Government. In fact, it is a pleasure to note that from the small number of 9 we started with, today we have increased to 52 children.”

Oliver Scicluna, Chief Executive of Agenzija Sapport, emphasised the importance of these collaborations between different entities because this means that services are being delivered that complement each other.

“It is the Agency’s commitment to continue investing and strengthening services in the community, especially those that are inclusive and that are also supportive for the relatives of people with disabilities,” concluded Mr. Scicluna.

Pauliana Said, the Chairperson of Voice for Inclusion Gozo, thanked the Government for its commitment to continue offering specialised services to children with disabilities in Gozo thereby helping their development.
