Over the coming weekend Malta will join other countries across Europe and Central Asia to celebrate the autumn bird migration.

BirdLife International is inviting people to discover the fascinating world of bird migration by attending several events being held across the BirdLife Partnership as part of the annual EuroBirdwatch23 event.

BirdLife Malta EuroBirdwatch events this weekend

In Malta, BirdLife Malta – as the BirdLife Partner – will be organising events on Saturday, the 30th pf September, at the Ghadira Nature Reserve will be hosting bird ringing sessions (with booking) at 7am and 8am, followed by an open day for families at the reserve between 10am and 4pm (no need to book).

On Sunday, the 1st of October, BirdLife Malta will be at Buskett Woodland where it will be hosting a birdwatching session for migratory birds of prey (with registration) between 2pm and 6pm.

EuroBirdwatch is the biggest event of the BirdLife Partnership in Europe, and has been organised since 1993. This year marks the 31st EuroBirdwatch event. Throughout all these years EuroBirdwatch has attracted more than 1.3 million people who observed more than 100 million migrating birds.

Over the years BirdLife Partners have invited all nature and bird lovers to join more than 45,000 amazing birdwatching events across Europe and Central Asia.

The overall aim of EuroBirdwatch is to raise awareness for the needs of migratory birds in the breeding areas, the flyways and stopovers, and in their wintering places in the Mediterranean and in Africa.

Birds face too many threats during migration. The most serious are climate change, intensification of the land use and illegal killing.
