The Environment and Resources Authority have said that they’re “on a mission to protect our surrounding waters and its biodiversity.”

During frequent RHIB (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat) patrols along the coast, the ERA explained that its enforcement officers are encountering lots of litter that is irresponsibly dumped at sea and which they are picking up along the way.

The ERA is also encouraging the public to do the same – picking up litter from next to the sea or when out at sea can provide various benefits:

1) Cleaner Sea for All

2) Safeguarding Marine Life: “Every piece of rubbish collected is a lifeline for marine species like turtles. Cleaning up helps protect their habitats and ensures they can thrive without harm from marine litter,” the ERA said.

3) Reducing Microplastics

4) Avoiding Vessel Damage: Marine litter can cause serious damage to boats and ships. By clearing it from our waters, we’re enhancing safety for maritime vessels and crews.

The ERA is appealing for the public to “join forces for a cleaner, safer sea that benefits us all.”
