The national minimum wage will be gradually increasing every year for the next four years. This is apart from the increases that are given every year with COLA.
In a statement on Thursday, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Social Dialogue, said that with this increase it means that those who today are on a minimum wage of €192.73 per week will see it increasing to €213.54 per week from next January.
From the 1st of January, everyone’s minimum wage must be adjusted to €200.73, which with the addition of the COLA, means that it will increase to €213.54.
This means that, whoever has a minimum wage that varies between €192.73 and €198.73 per week, in 2024 is getting an increase of between €2 and €8 per week apart from the statutory COLA for 2024.
Whoever has a wage that exceeds €198.73 but not €200.73 per week, will take the difference, and with it the statutory COLA for 2024.
The minimum wage for those who are eighteen years of age or older, from next year onwards will be as follows:
2024: €200.73 + COLA 2024
2025: €203.73 + COLA 2024 and COLA 2025
2026: €206.73 + COLA 2024, COLA 2025 and COLA 2026
2027: €210.73 + COLA 2024, COLA 2025, COLA 2026 and COLA 2027
Therefore the national minimum wage between 2024 and 2027 will rise between €12 and €18 per week in addition to the statutory COLA that must be given in the mentioned period.
Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul said that this increase “reflects the Government’s efforts to continue to improve the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families and reward the courage of Maltese workers.”
He thanked all the members of the Low Wage Commission, the social partners and also the technical consultant Dr. Gordon Cordina, for the work carried out in the last months that led to this agreement.
