49 people were detained by Police on Sunday after they were found living in Gozo irregularly.

The Police assisted by members of the Detention Services carried out the inspections across Gozo, however the majority were detained in Marsalforn and Victoria.

The majority of the migrants were from Africa and Eastern Europe, they were all taken to detention centres where the process for repatriation has started.

In a statement on Monday, the Police said that such investigations “remain a priority to provide security and peace of minds throughout the islands where the majority are honest people who observe public order.”
