The Water Services Corporation have been awarded the Energy Globe Award 2023 for Malta for its work on the Hondoq ir-Rummien reverse osmosis plant project.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli congratulated the entire Water Services Corporation team for the prestigious award.

She said that it was recognised as a “state-of-the-art project that offered the island of Gozo a secure water supply throughout the year, with a sustainable operation that is efficient in the use of energy.”This accolade was graciously presented to the WSC by the Austrian Ambassador to Malta, H.E. Erika Bernhard.

WSC explained that its latest reverse osmosis plant in Hondoq ir-Rummien, Gozo, has been recognised for its innovative approach to seawater desalination.

“Featuring the latest technology, including cutting-edge energy recovery devices, this state-of-the-art facility exemplifies our commitment to efficiency and sustainability,” it said.

The Energy Globe Award, with participation from over 180 countries, annually honours projects that make significant contributions towards environmental conservation through innovative solutions, sustainable projects, and awareness campaigns.

The award is overseen by the Energy Globe Foundation Austria, with a jury of about 30 energy and environmental experts. Receiving this award is not only an honour but also a responsibility to continue our journey towards a sustainable future.
