Festival of Light and the Titular Feast of St Lucy in Santa LucijaThe Feast to Saint Lucy will be celebrated by the hamlet of Santa Lucija in Gozo on the 8th, 9th and 10th of December, with a variety of celebrations that will take place inside the beautiful little church and also around the main streets.

On Saturday, the 9th the Ta’ Klula Cultural Group organises the annual Festival of Light in honour of the village Patron Saint – Saint Lucy.

A number of young girls, dressed in long white gowns and a red sash, accompanied by an elder girl with a wreath of lit candles on her head, parade from the village square where a large bonfire is lit, to the church.

Santa Lucija buns are distributed to all those present and a brass band will participate in the celebrations. The evening will get underway at 7.00pm.

On Sunday, a Solemn Mass will be celebrated at 9am. At 5:30pm, a procession will take place around the village with the ex-voto statue of St Lucy V.M., accompanied by fireworks and band marches.

On Tuesday, the 13th – The Feast Day – The church will be open all day.

Saint Lucy, is associated with lengthening days and more sunlight, the protector of light and St Lucy’s Day is Tuesday, the 13th of December.

For those who wish to visit the village on Saturday evening using public transport, bus number 313 goes to the village from the Victoria bus terminus.
