The Misunderstood Machiavelli, Power, Politics and the Development of Italian Elite Theory, with Erin Steele is the title of the next talk at Arthall in Gozo.

The talk is on Friday, the 15th of December, starting at 7:30 pm. Entrance is free of charge.

Armchair philosopher and long-time Gozo resident, Erin Steele enjoys pondering the complexities of human motivation and tackling controversial philosophical subjects.

She returns to Arthall to discuss the broader ethical and political contexts behind Niccolò Machiavelli’s famous assertion that in order to gain and hold power, “the end justifies the means.”

Erin regularly collaborates with Arthall and always deals with challenging topics such as anarchy, Marquis de Sade or whether our entire reality is a simulation.

Niccolò Machiavelli (3 May 1469 – 21 June 1527) was an Italian diplomat, author, philosopher and historian that lived during the Renaissance.

He is best known for his political treatise The Prince, written around 1513 but not published until 1532, five years after his death. He has often been called the father of modern political philosophy and political science.
