A temporary 1.5 Tesla MRI is at the Gozo General Hospital and should start being used during this first quarter of the year.
This was stated by Health and Active Ageing Minister Jo Etienne Abela. He was replying to a Parliamentary Question on the time frame for an MRI for Gozo by PN Shadow Spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg.
The Health Minister added that “it is planned that the 3.0 Tesla MRI will start operating before the end of the year and will replace the temporary one.”
A call for tenders had been issued last August for the supply of an MRI to the Gozo General Hospital.
Minister Jo Etinne Abela also revealed in an answer to PN Spokesperson for the economy Jerome Caruana Cilia, that 15,768 are on the waiting list for an MRI at the Mater Dei Hospital.
This is a considerable increase to the 8,791 persons on the list as advised last June by the then Health Minister Chris Fearne.
