To mark it 11th anniversary Il-Hagar | Heart of Gozo Museum in Victoria, has again prepared a weekend of events on the anniversary of its official inauguration on the 23rd of February 2013 and of Professor Joseph Vella’s demise five years later.

On Friday, the 23rd February Professor James Corby delivers the 6th Joseph Vella Memorial Lecture “Artificial Inspirations: Technology, the Arts and Us” at 7.30pm.

The opening of a documentary exhibition, using material from the Vella Music Archive, is set for 8.30pm. This can be visited until the 19th of March.

Two other events will be held on Saturday, the 24th. The museum will be hosting from 11am a hands-on workshop for children with artists Mario Abela and Justin Falzon (who are currently exhibiting in Unknown Perspective), for which booking is obviously essential.

At 8pm Godfrey Mifsud and the Cordia Quartet will be performing Joseph Vella’s Woodwind Works at Aula Monsignor Farrugia in St George’s Basilica complex.

The final two events will take place on Sunday, the 25th, beginning with 11am thanksgiving memorial Mass at St George’s celebrated by museum founder Mgr Joseph Farrugia and with the participation of the Laudate Pueri. A celebratory luncheon (for which booking is of course required) will be held at Ta’ Frenc at 12.30pm.

Additionally, Il-Hagar continues with its special collective exhibition, as well as a philatelic Air Malta First Flights assortment.

The normal opening hours seven days a week are 9am to 5pm, with no entrance fee, however “donations are gratefully accepted,” the museum said.
