The Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna, is urging Local Councils to collectively join forces to take unilateral action to protect the public from construction hazards.
“For the time being, Local Councils must work together to stop issuing of permits linked to construction, unless it is a case of emergency,” it said in a statement.
Zminijietna added that “this measure will put pressure on the Government to ensure that building regulations and enforcement are indeed protecting public safety.”
Zminijietna concluded by insisting that “Local Councils should be better equipped to take legal action when necessary. Also Local councils should have a stronger say on planning applications.”
