The long-awaited MRI machine is now at the Gozo General Hospital, Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela announced on social media on Thursday.

PN Shadow Spokesperson for Gozo, Alex Borg, said that he “welcomed with satisfaction the news that the MRI has finally been installed inside the Gozo General Hospital.”

He added that “it is certain that many Gozitan patients will benefit from this.”

Last month, the Health Minister said that a temporary 1.5 Tesla MRI would be at the Gozo General Hospital “and should start being used during this first quarter of the year.”

Replying to a Parliamentary Question by Alex Borg, he also said that “it is planned that the 3.0 Tesla MRI will start operating before the end of the year and will replace the temporary one.”

This machine was a much needed instrument for Gozitans who till now had to cross over to Malta even at unearthly hours and causing hardship for those who needed these tests.
Another much needed machine is one that patients have to cross over to Malta for treatment having to face hardship first for having kidneys blood transfusion at Mater Dei & then after having to cross once again to Gozo sometimes the ferry not giving priority to the Ambulances. This after spending hours on the kidney machines.
So as having a Gozitan as a Health Minister he has knowledge of what the General Hospital needs to give better service to locals.
This was a very important step in the right direction.
      Well done.
