The EU approved a co-funding rate of 85% from EU funds for the project of a transfer station in Gozo. The announcement was made by the Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs, George Pullicino whilst addressing an international conference on ‘selective collection of waste – the best practices used in Europe’ yesterday organised by Wasteserv and ACR +.

This project will improve waste management in Gozo because machinery will be provided to enable the waste to be separated into four categories, plastic, paper, glass and metal. The co-funding from the EU for the projects amounts to over €8 million.

As well as this project, local councils will be encouraged to provide other incentives to encourage residents to use the bring in sites that are in Gozo.

The conference took place with the idea of discussing and sharing experiences of the best practices used across Europe for separate waste collection. This The conference was organised by WasteServ Malta Ltd together with the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Resource Management (ACR +).
