Local Councils in Gozo receive funds for road works The Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information, Chris Said, visited Ghasri to view the work that the Local Council is carrying out on the reconstruction of Triq Dun Karm Caruana, which leads to the main square of the village. The Minister was accompanied by Ghasri Mayor, Andrew Vella.

Chris Said said that for the year 2009 the government had agreed the sum of €4.8 million to Local Councils to be spent on maintenance or extensive re-coating with tarmac of 162 roads. Eight of these locations are in Gozo.

The ambitious project and needed reconstruction of Triq Dun Karm Caruana is one of those approved under this measure.

Triq Dun Karm Caruana has always suffered from flooding in the rain, so the project included the construction of ditches to collect the rainwater. The mains water, water services and sewerage services of the houses were also changed.

The reconstruction of the road also included the rebuilding of the pavement. The tarmacing of the road will complete the work and is scheduled to be finished in the coming days. The Local Council will then place traffic and parking signs.

The Parliamentary Secretary congratulated the Ghasri Local Council on the project carried out, which when completed will result in a better environment for the residents of the locality.
