Gozo Court issues fine and suspension for illegal trapping on unregistered site

The Gozo Court on Friday sentenced an individual for illegally trapping finches on a site in Xag?ra, Gozo. The site was unregistered, and the individual was not in possession of a valid trapping license, the Malta Ranger Unit said.

The MRU said that the individual admitted to the charges and was fined €600, as well as being given a 2-year suspension during which he is not able to apply for a trapping license.

The person was spotted trapping by Rangers from the MRU on the 21st of November last year.

The Rangers said that they reported the incident to the Victoria Police who swiftly arrived on site and caught the man red-handed.

The MRU added that 2 nets, 4 poles and 16 cages with birds (11 Siskins, 3 Hawfinches, 4 Chaffinches) were also confiscated by the Police.
