In the exhibition hall of the Ministry for Gozo, an exhibition of books and other material related to publications of the writings of Mons. Anton Saliba was recently inaugurated. These works include books of childrens stories as well as novels and works for the stage.
The author, who was born and resides in Sannat, is exhibiting more than 25 books which have been published in recent years. For this occasion three books were launched which were published recently. The stories are aimed at children and students attending primary and secondary schools.
Also on exhibit are a number of drawings by artists Carmel Camilleri and Eric Xuereb, who bring to life in their drawings characters that are often animals.
This exhibition was inaugurated by Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, who explained how books still have an important function in everyday life, especially in the areas of education and culture. A number of children from various schools around Gozo were invitied to the inauguration to enable them to take that message back to their schools. The Minister commended the talent of Mons. Saliba and thanked him for the donation of books which was presented when the exhibition was launched.
For the official opening of the exhibition a special programmed was organised by the committee. A presentation was made about the life of the author. Primary school children read excerpts from the books of Mons. Saliba, including the new book ‘The Rabbit’. Poems were recitted that were written for the occasion by Giovanni Attard and Kav. Joe M. Attard.
The exhibition will be open until Saturday, the 24th of October 2009. The opening hours are from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm and Saturday between 9.00 a.m. and midday.
