Gozo Carnival 2014 weekend of events kicks off this evening

This weekend Carnival fever will grip Gozo, with five days of festivites which get underway tonight.
Visitors to Gozo for this very popular weekend will be welcomed with a riot of colour and plenty of excitement to keep all ages entertained, with Carnival activities taking place in villages across the island
The Gozo Regional Carnival, taking place in Victoria, this year promises, fun, dance, colourful floats and satirical masks, as well as a set of costumes from London’s famous Notting Hill Carnival.
It will include a parade along Vajringa Street to St Francis Square, which was a route that used to be taken by the Carnival many years ago, and for the first time ever, a spectacular parade will be organised under the theme: ‘Gozo, Colors, Life and spectacle,’ which will take place on Saturday evening. The Qala Local Council is organising a Carnival this evening, Friday, the 28th of February, getting underway at 7.30pm, with a defile’ from Bishop Mikiel Buttigieg Square to Saint Joseph Square.
In Xewkija, the Carnival takes place on Sunday, the 2nd of March, starting at 9.30am when the Prekursur Band club will take part in the defile at St. John the Baptist Square, there will also be dance groups as well as the Carnival ‘Karrijiet,’ and the ‘Kukkanja, all activities have been organised by: the Xewkija Local Council.
The Sannat Carnival takes place on Monday, the 3rd of March, with Carnival Costume Competitions, Dance, Traditional dance, Folk music in various streets and St. Margaret Square from 6.30pm onwards. All activities have been organised by the Sannat Local Council.
The very popular Nadur Spontaneous Carnival takes place this weekend, with the participation of dancers from the Notting Hill carnival in London.
Xaghra Carnival has events starting on Saturday including the Xaghra Carnival record attempt for largest ‘Prinjolata’ ever produced, in aid of Puttinu Cares.
Zebbug Carnival events and parades will take place on Sunday, the 2nd of March, organised by the Zebbug Local Council.
