The Environment and Resources Authority said that it is welcoming feedback on the “Intent and objectives of the General Guidelines for Landscaping in Urban Areas.”

The Authority highlighted that appropriate landscaping in urban areas provides various benefits for biodiversity, as well as for quality of life and wellbeing.

Good landscaping practices are critical to maximise the environmental and wellbeing benefits of green spaces in our towns and villages, it said

The ERA explained that important ecosystem services which may be provided by suitably landscaped urban areas include those related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, pollination, water management, temperature regulation, reducing exposure to air pollution, noise abatement, aesthetic inspiration, as well as creating green settings for cultural events, recreation, active mobility, leisure and exercise.

Landscaped areas also play a critical role by acting as ecological corridors and providing refuge habitats for indigenous flora and fauna, the Authority said.
