The Presbyteral Ordination of Fr Franklin Micallef, from the Parish of Kercem took place at the Gozo Cathedral on Friday evening.

Bishop Anton Teuma, in his homily recalled that God still calls, but he waits for the free response of man, who recognises that at the origin of the vocation there is always friendship with God. Giving in the priestly vocation is the greatest act of freedom, where “one gives his life for his friends.”

The only condition for God’s grace to make good for human weaknesses, observed the Bishop, is to approach with humility and cooperate with it. He also reminded that this is never a ministry of power over others, but of service in love.

For the celebration with Bishop Anton and several priests concelebrated Cardinal Mario Grech, who is from the same parish of origin of the new priest Fr. Franklin, and was Bishop of Gozo when he entered the Seminary eight years ago.

At the end of the almost two-hour celebration, Bishop Teuma thanked from his heart those who in the Seminary take care of the formation of future priests, and wished that among more families there would be children who respond to the priestly call.
