A 32-year old female Chinese national is in a serious condition after she found herself in difficulty while swimming in Comino.

Police said the incident happened at around 1pm on Saturday.

The woman was given first assistance at the scene by members from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps and was taken to the port of Mgarr from where she was taken to the Gozo General Hospital.

Magistrate Simone Grech has appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
