Nominations are now open for the ninth edition of the Gozo Sports Awards organised y the Services Gozo Directorate and the Ministry for Gozo and Planning

These awards are to honour Gozitan athletes for their commitments and achievements, while rewarding them for their advances in the various sports disciplines.

Athletes may be nominated by their respective Gozitan associations, Gozitan clubs based on performances and achievements in the categories on the application during the year 2023 in events that took place in Gozo, Malta or abroad.

Applications open today and can be completed online. These must be submitted by noon on Wednesday the 17th of July.

The results will be announced during the final evening which will take place on Wednesday, the 21st of August.

These are the categories that will be awarded:

Official of the Year: a person who serves in the administration in an Association, Club or event

Coach of the Year: a qualified person who was recruited by an Association, Club or regional selection

Team of the Year: a team that represented Gozo or a local Club

Recognition for an active athlete over 45 years of age (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)

Recognition for a sporting career (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)

Special Olympics Special Recognition (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)

Promising young female: A young woman of no more than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local club

Promising young male: A young man of no more than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local club

Sportswoman of the Year: Sportswoman not nominated in the Promising Young female category who represented Gozo or a local Club

Sportsman of the Year: A sportsman not nominated in the Promising Young male category who represented Gozo or a local club

It was explained that individuals can nominate another individual only when there is no club or association of the respective sport. Where there is an association or club, nominations cannot be submitted by individuals.??
