A call for retired individuals aged 60-years or over to volunteer as school grannies, has been issued by the Active Ageing and Community Care in collaboration with Nadur Local Council.
They explained that this role will include:
• Supporting police officers and/or LESA officers to stop or deviate traffic from near school entrances;
• Assisting school children to cross the road safely;
• Greeting the children and at times also offer some items (these will be provided).
The Council said the chosen individuals will be required to attend training as directed by AACC and the local council and will be required to work for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon on school days only at a remuneration of €5.50 per hour.
Interested individuals can apply at the Nadur Local Council Office by not later than the 21st of August.
Applicants are to also submit together with the form a clean police conduct certificate and a medical certificate indicating that they are physically and cognitively fit to participate in this initiative, the Council said.
It advised that, “not everyone who applies will necessarily be accepted, as this will be confirmed after a process carried out together with AACC.”
