Nature Trust (Malta) announces winners of its school competition “Imnebbha min-Natura”During the past scholastic year Nature Trust organised a competition for students attending its organised nature walks around Bahrija and Buskett. The students were to submit an original work which was inspired from their experience during the outing.

During the walk students are encouraged to make full use of their senses and to focus on what is around them – this can include anything from the smallest commonest flower to the lichens covering the rocks and to the sighting of the rare Maltese Freshwater Crab or endemic orchids. But it also includes the negative aspects of our countryside such as when students stared in disbelief at the bulldozing taking place in the protected Bahrija valley or when they helped pick up the increasing amounts of litter around.

Nature Trust would like to thank all students and schools who attended its activities and would like to inform teachers that guided walks are organised regularly with the aim to encourage students to observe the natural environment in order to be able to appreciate it better and also understand the issues afflicting it. The countryside is the best outdoor classroom with the added advantage that it is a great way to also get some air and exercise.

Two prizes were given in each category:
