Health Authorities said that at around 8:00am, the fire alarm system in the Medical Imaging Department at the Gozo General Hospital detected smoke originating from the Fluoroscopy Room.

The Code Red team promptly followed established procedures, taking the necessary actions to ensure the safety of patients and staff on-site.

As part of these procedures, the Civil Protection Malta was contacted and quickly dispatched to the site, the authorities said.

They added that “the source of the smoke was identified to be originating from a control box in the Fluoroscopy Room. No fire suppression systems were required to manage the incident.”

Health Authorities said the Medical Imaging Department and adjoining areas were back in operation before 9:00 am with patient services resuming shortly after receiving clearance from the Civil Protection Department.

“The staff at Gozo General Hospital reacted professionally and according to protocol, prioritising the safety and well-being of our patients,” authorities said.
