Number of registered unemployed persons continues to rise

Registered unemployed in July up by 224 persons on last yearToday’s data released by the National Statistics Office show that the number of registered unemployed in August increased by 164 persons over August 2023 levels to 1,138. It had also increased from July, when the number stood at 1,121.

The figures revealed that males accounted for 67.6% or 769 of total registrants while females accounted for the remaining 32.4% or 369 registrants.

The NSO noted that increases in the registered unemployment levels were recorded in all age groups.

The number of persons with a disability registering for work increased by nine persons over the same period in 2023, reaching 239 persons. This number was also up on July, when it stood at 230. Males accounted for 74.5% of total registrants with a disability.

Clerical support jobs were the most common occupations sought by the registered unemployed.
