The National Blood Transfusion Service said that currently O Positive and A Positive blood donations are still urgently required, however all blood types are needed and donations are requested to help ensure hospitals have an adequate blood stock for patients in need.

The entire blood donation process takes about an hour, but the actual blood draw is only 8-10 minutes long. “It’s safe, simple, and saves lives,” the NBTS said.

Did you know that men can donate blood every 3 months whilst women can do so every 4 months. The NBTS said that “your consistent donations are crucial in maintaining a steady blood supply.”

The Service continues to encourage Gozitans to please keep attending donation sessions to help the patients in need get the necessary blood in a timely manner.

The next session in Gozo will be, Sunday, the 6th of October, from 8am until 1pm, at the Xewkija Community Clinic.

The centre is located at the Xewkija Community Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

• Bring your Maltese ID Card, driving licence or passport.

• Drink some water before your donation and have a light snack.

• Wear loose fitting clothes/sleeves.
