During the last fewdays an assistant instructor abseiling course was held at the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch newly set up training premises. Ten course participants have successfully finished the course.

The course covered several aspects of abseiling such as event planning, health and safety, problem solving, pedagogy, equipment maintenance and servicing and skill assessment techniques.

Hands on practice were done using several different pieces of equipment. Participants were assessed for their skills and team leader capabilities. The course was coordinated by Master instructor Etienne Micallef and run by instructors Anthony Grech, Mario Saliba and Jean Paul Bajada.

The Malta Red Cross has the capacity to give several technical courses (operator and instructor level) such as industrial rope access, technical rope rescue, confined space working and rescue.
