€7,692.50 has recently been awarded to the Xewkija Local Council, which will be used to upgrade the local public lending library “for the benefit of the whole community.”

The funds were allocated under the scheme SPI/SCI/2/2024 – More accessible and Inclusive Communities, which was issued by the Directorate for Local Government, Strategy and Policy Implementation.

“This upgrade project will ensure equitable access to information irrespective of the person’s abilities or lack of them, promoting education and digital literacy, fostering community engagement, and supporting lifelong learning within the community,” the Council said.

Apart from this, the library will eventually serve for community engagement and social cohesion.

“Works will commence in the near future, and by implementing the submitted project of upgrades and considerations, the local lending library can become a more inclusive and welcoming space for children with special needs, empowering them to engage in reading, learning and community activities alongside their families and peers.” the Council said.
