Gozo College schoolchildren are set to embark on an enchanting musical journey as Saint-Saëns’ delightful suite, The Carnival of the Animals, arrives in Gozo for the first in its original orchestration.

Taking place at the Oratory Don Bosco Theatre in Victoria, this splendid experience promises an immersive celebration of music and nature for the young audience.

Composed by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, Le Carnaval des Animaux is a humorous suite of 14 movements for chamber ensemble and two pianos.

The production will feature a combination of whimsical melodies and dynamic rhythms, brought to life under the musical direction of Pierre Louis Attard, leader Marcelline Agius, and pianists Maria-Elena Farrugia and Milica Lawrence.The artistic direction of George Mizzi elevates the production further, with narrators and actors George Camilleri and Maria Mercieca lending their storytelling prowess to the event by reading Ogden Nash’s verses for Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals.

The musical director said that “accompanied by background audio-visual projections, the performance will transport audiences into the magical world of animals, engaging the imagination of the children present.”

Two performances are scheduled for Friday, the 6th of December, at 9:30am and 12:00pm at the Oratory Don Bosco Theatre.

The project is presented by the Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.
