Arthall in Gozo has announced its first event for 2025 – a talk by Erin Steele: More Strawberry than Strawberry: An Introduction to Jean Baudrillard’s Theories of Hyperreality and Simulation.

What do strawberries, Disneyland, and the First Gulf War all have in common? They all feature in post-modernist philosopher Jean Baudrillard’s theory of hyperreality. But you’ll have to come hang out to find out more.

The gallery is inviting the public to “pop in, grab a glass of wine, and we’ll decipher Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation (which partially inspired “The Matrix”) as we explore the relationships between reality, symbols, and society.”

Armchair philosopher and long-time Gozo resident, Erin Steele, enjoys pondering the complexities of human motivation and tackling controversial philosophical subjects.

She returns to Arthall to discuss the theory of hyperreality by Jean Baudrillard. Arthall said that “you remember her other talks at the gallery about anarchism, simulation, Marquis de Sade, Machiavelli… She is always ready to surprise us.”

The talk is on Friday, the 17th of January, starting at 7:30 pm. Entrance is free of charge.

The venue is Arthall: 8, triq Agius de Soldanis, Victoria, Gozo.
