In what was described as a ‘walk through the Arts’ around the main streets of Victoria and within the Citadel on the eve of this year’s Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana, the Minister for Gozo, giovanna Debono, inaugurated no fewer than seven exhibitions mostly related to local history and art.

The exhibitions, for which entrance is free, will be open throughout the three days of the Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana 2011 event between the 3rd and the 5th of June 2011.

The activity started at the Ministry for Gozo Exhibition Hall where the Minister inaugurated an exhibition on Government projects carried out in Gozo. Amongst others these include infrastructural projects as well as others related with the implementation of the eco-Gozo action plan.

The second venue was that of the Victoria Art Gallery in Vajringa Street where the Minister inaugurated ‘Gozo Through Art’. The Minister then visited the Banca Giuratale in Independence Square where she inaugurated an exhibition on Gian Battista Conti.

Next was the inauguration of an exhibition commemorating Bishop Nikol Guzeppi Cauchi (1929-2010) at the Bishop’s Curia in Republic Street followed by a walk up to the Cittadella Centre for Culture and the Arts where the Minister opened two exhibitions. One on Feasts in Olden Times and another Contemporary Visions by French artist Colette Marchant. This original tour – for which no CO2 was emitted in terms of transport – ended at the Circolo Gozitano in Sir M.A. Refalo Street, where an exhibition of paintings by Chris Saliba titled Latest Creations was inaugurated.

“Gozo is a showcase of talent, where traditions are respected and cultural development is encouraged,” Minister Debono said. “I invite all Gozitans and Maltese, to join us this weekend for what I am convinced will be a memorable Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana.”

Those travelling to Gozo may avail themselves of the regular bus service to Victoria that leaves Mgarr as soon as the ferry arrives up until 10 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Additional bus services will also be provided from Victoria to Mgarr up to 12.30 a.m. on Friday and 2 a.m. on Saturday.

All activities are open to the public and are free of charge (unless stated). For more information please telephone 21556700, e-mail info@gozoculture.com or visit the websites www.gozoculture.com, www.eco-gozo.com and www.gozo.gov.mt.
