Arnold Cassola has accused Prime Minister Robert Abela of “basically extending impunity from corrupt politicians to servile civil servants who, in their personal capacity, are cheating the country.”

In a statement on Monday, the independent candidate said that Robert Abela has just announced that “in the coming days we will give civil servants legal protection from being taken to court in their personal capacity for working for the country.”

“This is unacceptable,” stated Cassola. “We must resist this serious threat to democracy.”

Cassola als accused Abela, of “trying to hinder the citizens’ rights to hold elected officials and civil servants accountable for their actions.”

“I therefore invite all democratic and honest Maltese to attend the protest organised by Repubblika and addressed also by Graffitti next Thursday, the 16th of January, at 6.30pm in front of the law courts in Valletta,” Cassola said.

He added that representatives of Momentum will be attending the protest.
