Last December, the Planning Authority approved the demolition of the 1890s Married Quarters British Barracks within Fort Chambray in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, with the possible retention of the front and the lateral façades which would be relocated and stuck on an apart-hotel in the northern part of the fort.
NGOs are requesting an emergency conservation order to preserve this historic Late Victorian building. Click here to view the document and to add a personal endorsement.
This request is being made by the Coalition for Gozo, composed of Din l-Art Helwa Ghawdex, Ghawdix, and Wirt Ghawdex.
An appeal against the Fort Chambray permit decision is also being made by nine NGOs, the crowdfunding target for this was reached earlier this month.
The Coalition said that it is supported in this action by Din l-Art Helwa and numerous Maltese environmental NGOs.
