ERA issues over 2,000 fines and warnings on domestic waste collectionThe Environment and Resources Authority has brought together regional and local councils from across Malta and Gozo for a waste management meeting, fostering collaboration on sustainable waste solutions.

The meeting revealed that over 2,000 fines and warnings were issued by the ERA with regards to household waste collection.

It was explained that some 1,073 fines were issued in 2024. These were for household waste put out on the wrong day of collection. Warnings issued were about the same number, with over 1,000 for incorrect waste separation.

Key speakers in the meeting included ERA’s CEO, LESA, the Malta Tourism Authority and Superintendent Joseph Busuttil.

Koperattiva G?awdxija tal-Indafa Pubblika Limitata were also invited. KIP Gozo shared valuable insights on the waste collection service it provides, covering among others catering businesses and other Gozitan establishments.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, encouraging open dialogue and community engagement.

The ERA said that “meetings like these are vital in strengthening ERA’s commitment to transparent communication and sustainable waste management.”
