Leader of the Nationalist Party Bernard Grech urged the people to continue answering the call “to restore our country into a strong, proud nation that commands the admiration of others, that provides comfort to its children, strengthens families, and above all, uplifts its citizens.”
Bernard Grech was speaking at a protest held on Sunday afternoon in Valletta, with the theme – Gvern li Falla (A Government that failed).
Grech stated that, at present, “we have a government that represents neither the Maltese nor the Gozitans.”
“This is a failed Government,” said Bernard Grech, “because it lives in a bubble, unable to see or hear the people. From within this bubble, it makes decisions about people’s lives, decisions made without a plan, only to then backtrack repeatedly.”
“This is a Government that builds high walls to shield those around it while leaving you to struggle alone with the rising cost of living. It has left you without direction on the economy,” said Grech. “It has failed you in healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, and traffic management. It has failed you as a student, as a teacher, as a Maltese citizen, and as a Gozitan.”
Grech went on to say that “the Nationalist Party is here for you. For all the people. And when the people call upon it, it will be ready to serve and restore the country to what it deserves to be.”
Before Bernard Grech’s speech, contributions were also made by Stanley Portelli, a young Gozitan lawyer, and Michael Piccinino, the PN’s Secretary General, whose term will soon come to an end.
Stanley Portelli spoke about how this Government has “effectively erased Gozo from the political map, as it is clear from recent years that Abela and his colleagues had no plan for Gozo.”
He stated that “the surge in population has had a negative impact on Gozo, especially on the quality of life of Gozitans, who are already paying the price for the Government’s poor planning when it comes to connectivity, investment in Gozitan healthcare, and emerging sectors such as technology.”
Portelli argued that “this is because the Government is more concerned with abusing its position and misusing public funds than with improving people’s lives.”
He added that a “clear example of this in Gozo is the Mgarr Road, the sports complex and pool that is never filled, and the Gozo Museum, which remains a ghost project.”
Michael Piccinino stated that we have a Government that “has disheartened the people, but today’s crowd in Valletta is clear proof that the people have renewed hope in the Nationalist Party.”
Michael Piccinino stated that the PN wants to “restore hope to the people; hope for our children to have a better future, hope for young people to find opportunities and a protected environment, and hope for workers, the self-employed, and the elderly, ensuring that the government is focused on them rather than itself.”
