Mata Ranger Unit Rangers in Gozo reported a site in Gozo this week where it said, a “large trapping net had been left unattended with a caged quail beneath it.”

The Rangers also also noted that the quail, used as a live decoy to lure other quails to be entrapped in the net, “had no water at all.”

The Gozo Police were called and were on site within five minutes and dismantled the site and confiscated the equipment and the quail, the MRU said.

The MRU expressed their thanks to the Gozo Police Officers for their swift response.

The Rangers warned that “unattended nets are a great threat to all wildlife, as well as using trapping equipment during closed season.”

“Our work in Gozo continues,” the Rangers said. “Anyone who wishes to report environmental crimes to our Rangers may do so via WhatsApp 7937 8118.”
