Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, who is also responsible for hunting, said that he has been informed that a request for a Prohibition Mandate was presented in the Court on Tuesday by Birdlife Malta, on the opening of a spring hunting season for Turtle-dove.

Camilleri added that the aim of the Mandate is so the “the Ornis Committee is restrained from considering, discussing, deciding and recommending on the opening, or not, of the spring hunting season for doves.”

Writing on social media, the Minister said that “it seems that the Court has already granted this request provisionally, as it has done in previous years.”

“The Government will be responding to this mandate – and once again – defending its position in this fourth consecutive mandate,” Minister Camilleri said.

Last year, the Court rejected BirdLife Malta’s request for the issuance of the Prohibition Mandate and the Government then published the Legal Notice for the opening of the spring hunting season.
