GO introduces international in-flight roaming serviceGO has anounced that it recently introduced an international in-flight roaming service using high-powered roaming partner AeroMobile. In-flight roaming via the network is now offered, or will soon be offered to GO mobile customers on certain flights operated by various leading airlines. These include Emirates Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Qantas Airways and Saudi Arabian Airlines.

The international roaming In-flight service allows GO customers to be connected at certain times while flying with the airlines mentioned above. In-flight roaming necessitates that an aircraft is installed with a mobile phone transmitter. The role of this transmitter is to activate the service and relay calls to and from mobile phones. Calls are then routed by satellites that in turn route the calls to and from terrestial networks thus connecting the mobile calls to telecom networks on ground.

GO customers can use their mobile phones as soon as the aircraft reaches a cruising altitude and In-flight staff inform passengers that the use of mobile phones is permitted. The In-flight roaming service gives GO post-paid mobile customers the opportunity to enjoy incoming and outgoing voice calls and SMS. Outgoing voice calls for GO mobile pre-paid customers are not as yet available.

Speaking of the In-flight roaming service, Anthony Slater, GO Executive for International Roaming said: “We are delighted to have introduced an In-flight mobile roaming service for the benefit of our customers. The service is an add-on to GO’s extensive roaming service and is in line with GO’s ongoing drive to satisfy customers requirements.”

“GO offers the best level of international roaming service compared to local competition and at par with international operators, with far-reaching worldwide coverage spanning all continents. GO’s international roaming is available globally in 200 countries thanks to roaming agreements with well in excess of 420 operators. Further, we boast roaming agreements with at least two 3G networks in several EU countries. Now we also provide international and In-flight roaming service for the benefit of those customers who are very much into travelling abroad.”

GO mobile provides connection to the service for In-flight roaming while the actual availability of the In-flight service on particular aircraft is the sole responsibility of the airlines that manage the flights. Service permitted on the aircraft is likewise at the discretion of the airlines themselves and GO mobile is in no way responsible for the level of service.
