Police said that the body of a 71-year old man has been recovered from the sea off Comino. They were informed at around 12.45pm that a person had been spotted face down in the sea.

The Armed Forces of Malta were called to the scene and they found a man who “appeared to be unconscious and brought him ashore at Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, but unfortunately he was certified dead.”

Further investigations identified the person as a 71-year-old man from Xewkija, Gozo, who had been fishing earlier.

Magistrate Dr Brigitte Sultana was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
