During the storm of the early hour of this morning, lightning struck and caused structural damage to the bell tower of the Xewkija Church.
Writing on social media, Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri said that he has instructed that “an architect be hired to assess the situation and determine the way forward.”
“We are in contact with the authorities concerned, including the parish and the Curia,” said the Minister.
The Xewkija Local Council said that it will be following the latest updates issued by the entities concerned.
It added that, “we will also be offering the necessary assistance, so that the situation is resolved as soon as possible.”
The storm broke over Gozo just after 2am this morning lasting until around 6am, bringing with it heavy rainfall. In Victoria 31.7mm or rain was recorded in that period.
