A special educational activity has been held on a farm in Gozo to mark World Milk Day, which is celebrated on the 1st of June. The theme for World Milk Day this year is – Celebrating the Power of Dairy
The event was organised by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights together with the Malta Food Agency, the Milk Production Cooperative (KPH) and Benna.
Children from Xewkija Primary School had the opportunity to discover first-hand where the fresh milk we drink every day comes from, as well as learn about cows and their role in the milk production process.
They were also able to take part in practical activities that increased their knowledge about the source of this nutritional product so important for their development.
Minister Anton Refalo, who was present at the event, explained how “a day like this reminds us that milk is not only an essential product for our health, but also forms part of our agricultural identity. When we foster an appreciation among children, we are building a future with greater respect for farming and local produce.”
Malta Food Agency CEO Brian Vella stressed the importance of continuing to support our farmers and fostering a culture of healthy and local food from a young age. He added that “when we buy and consume a Maltese product, we are giving value to what is truly ours, made with care and a sense of pride.”
The Ministry expressed its thanks all those who worked to make this event a success, in particular the Malta Food Agency, KPH and Benna, “who together delivered an educational and memorable experience for children in an authentic agricultural environment.”
The Ministry said that it also “gives special recognition and thanks to every farmer for the tireless work they carry out throughout the year to ensure fresh, high-quality milk on our table, not just today, but every day.”
