The fifth edition of the ‘State of the Nation’ conference took place at the Verdala Palace, bringing together professionals, educators and leaders of the country for a discussion based on the findings of a survey by Professor Vincent Marmara and Mr Lou Bondi, and which focused on education in its broadest sense and at different levels.

In her closing address to the conference, President Myriam Spiteri Debono urged that the results of the survey conducted by Professor Vincent Marmara be studied and explored in depth, to spur the changes that people feel they need.

The President also recognised the need for our people, of every age, in every category and capacity, to have the facilities and structures available so as to develop more intensively the skills in our people, and to encourage the natural creative tendency that humans possess.

This year’s survey was conducted among 1,064 people who are a reflection of society – conducted among citizens of different ages and genders, and residents across Malta and Gozo.

Now that five years have passed since this exercise began, it gives a clear picture of the trends of change in Maltese society, the President said.
