Two Maltese referees selected for European Water Polo Championships Qualifiers

Aquatic Sports Association Malta has announced that Malta continues to make its mark on the international sporting stage, with two of its water polo referees selected to officiate in the upcoming 2026 European Water Polo Championships Qualification Tournaments.

Referee Stefan Licari has been appointed to officiate in the Women’s European Water Polo Championships – Group C, taking place in Novi Sad, Serbia, this weekend the 7th and 8th of June. The group features national teams from Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Finland. Licari’s selection highlights his growing reputation in international water polo, and his presence adds prestige to Malta’s sporting profile in the region, said the Association.

Meanwhile, Referee Massimo Angileri will take charge of matches in the Men’s European Water Polo Championships – Group B, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 9th to 11th of June. Competing teams in this group include Germany, Slovakia, Turkey, Finland, and Sweden. Angileri brings a wealth of experience to the tournament, further showcasing the calibre of Maltese officials on the European stage.

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and The Malta Referee Association congratulated both referees on their appointments and wishes them the very best as they represent the country with professionalism and integrity.
