This coming Saturday, the Citadel will once again come to life with the very popular annual light festival – Lejl Imkebbes.
Thousands of different types of candles will be illuminating the narrow streets of the old city within the Citadel, creating a wonderful magical atmosphere and the perfect backdrop for this magical evening, where light and life merge with the island’s rich heritage.
Lejl Imkebbes this year will also serve as a platform for the launch of an initiative related to the Malta Vision 2050 – Gozo 2050: A Journey Through Time. This is an interactive three-room experience that will explore Gozo’s present and showcase a vision of the island’s imagined future.
The event’s Artistic Director Quinton Scerri explained that this year Lejl Imkebbes will be decorated with more than 20,000 candles with a number of large designs and light artifacts that continue to create a unique and magical atmosphere for all those who will attend.
The programme for the evening is designed to offer an unforgettable experience for the whole family, and includes live entertainment, historical reenactments, free access to museums, food stalls, and photo opportunities.
Gozo 2050: A Journey Through Time which will take place during Lejl Imkebbes, involves the participation of the Gozitan community in creating the future of the island. Through this experience, everyone is being invited to be part of the conversation on how we can ensure that Gozo remains an attractive place to live, work and visit, even in the years to come.
The Ministry for Gozo is invited the public to visit the Citadel on Saturday, the 14th of June from 7pm onwards for this “magical evening of cultural celebration and vision for the future of Gozo.”
