Health Authorities have warned that swimming is not recommended at Xlendi Bay until further notice as a precautionary measure.

The Environmental Health Directorate advised that following the rainfall on the 20th of June, runoff water from the Xlendi valley, which was carried down from Victoria and several other localities in central Gozo, brought with it soil and deposits from the valley that have continued to flow into the sea.

The Environment Health Directorate said that the quality of the bathing water “may have been affected, posing a potential risk to public health.”

Environmental Health Officers are currently collecting samples from all four monitoring points at Xlendi to assess the water quality. At this stage, it is not possible to predict how long the warning will remain in effect, the Directorate said.

Site Code: D04, D05, D06 and D07 – Signs indicating the area have been fixed in the area. When the quality is restored, the signs will be removed, and further information will be provided to the public that the site is again fit for bathing, said the Directorate.
