Summer bloodThis Tuesday, there will be a blood donation session in Gozo, all groups are needed, the National Blood Transfusion Service said.

The week ahead is forecast to be very hot, highlighting the fact that the summer months can be particularly challenging for maintaining the correct level of blood supplies, with the heat, or people away on holidays, reducing the number who are able to donate.

The Service therefor continues to encourage Gozitans to please keep attending donation sessions to help the patients in need get the necessary blood in a timely manner and to ensure a stable blood supply.

The entire process takes about an hour, but the actual blood draw is only 8-10 minutes long, the Service said. “It’s safe, simple and saves lives. As long as you’re healthy and meet the eligibility requirements, you can donate blood until your 70th birthday.”

The NBTS advised that is has updated the donor eligibility guidelines removing restrictions on a number of medications. For more information on donor eligibility please call on 22066201 or 79307307 or on free phone 80074313.

The next session in Gozo will be on Tuesday, the 22nd of July, from 1pm until 5pm, at the Xewkija Community Clinic.

“Your cooperation and generosity are greatly appreciated as always,” the Service said.

The centre is located at the Xewkija Community Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.
