Police said that a 35-year old Italian man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in the Blue Lagoon in Comino on Wednesday.

The Police were informed of the incident occurred at around 1.30pm. The man was provided with first assistance at the scene by Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) lifeguards before being taken to Mgarr harbour and from there to the Gozo General Hospital.

Unfortunately, he was certified dead a short time later.

Magistrate Brigitte Sultana was informed of the case and opened a Magisterial Inquiry.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
